Horn lifting.
With the help of many visitors we lifted about 500 horns. The forth time the pit has been used. This time there were very few earth worms (in contrast to last year) but an enormous amount of white roots. We suspect that these roots came from the pumpkins growing on top of the pit. But we are not sure. Half of the 500 was lost this way. However, the other half is of very good quality.
Also stirred with flow-form and two coppers. 500 on most of the farm, all gardens, gatehouse garden, east slope and plantations, top areas both east & west.
Also lifted Yarrow. Again an unusual number of roots permeating through the preparations. Apart from that, quality seem pretty good.

Today we buried about 500 horns. May thanks to all the people who turned up and helped. Special thanks to Timotry and Sambod for their additional cow manure, Collin, Margaret, Darren, Muzz and Tewee, Kay, Richard, Vivian, Isabel, Mani and the many others whose names I can’t remember right now.
Linda’s excellent organization was crucial as usual. The rain held off just in time making the whole event a very nice experience. All horns were capped with clay and a deep trench dug to prevent tree roots from growing into the pit.
The first layer of horns was buried vertically. In the second layer the horns are horizontal. More pictures can be viewed on the farm diary blog for that day.
Also buried Yarrow preparation and lifted last year’s chamomile.

Hubert's Memorial Gathering

Thanks to everybody who turned up for Hubert’s Memorial Gathering. We enjoyed a 15 minute silent meditation, broke up the ceramic head as to Hubert’s instructions and then planted trees around the look-out. The rain held back and we all enjoyed remembering our friend Hubert. Afterwards we had tea and cake at the Processing Shed.

Tuesday the 15th of January

Stefan/Muzz/Tewee/Linda/woofer Andre
War, some heavy showers. This is the wettest season we have experienced. All areas of the farms are saturated now. Everything is dripping with water. Growth has been extreme. Some small trees have doubled in size. It is as though we had two seasons in one. Of course all the weeds are up as well. Most of our time is weeding and brush-cutting. Mango hrvst enormous but the lack of sun has an impact.
Andre has snared three rabbits that were eaten yesterday for lunch. There is a philosophical argument about this. Personally I am opposed but as the rabbits are increasing in numbers (three years ago there were none) we have to do something about it. We use peppers but it is not enough. So I can appreciate that eating the cought rabbits has got some merit.
