Horn lifting.
With the help of many visitors we lifted about 500 horns. The forth time the pit has been used. This time there were very few earth worms (in contrast to last year) but an enormous amount of white roots. We suspect that these roots came from the pumpkins growing on top of the pit. But we are not sure. Half of the 500 was lost this way. However, the other half is of very good quality.
Also stirred with flow-form and two coppers. 500 on most of the farm, all gardens, gatehouse garden, east slope and plantations, top areas both east & west.
Also lifted Yarrow. Again an unusual number of roots permeating through the preparations. Apart from that, quality seem pretty good.

Today we buried about 500 horns. May thanks to all the people who turned up and helped. Special thanks to Timotry and Sambod for their additional cow manure, Collin, Margaret, Darren, Muzz and Tewee, Kay, Richard, Vivian, Isabel, Mani and the many others whose names I can’t remember right now.
Linda’s excellent organization was crucial as usual. The rain held off just in time making the whole event a very nice experience. All horns were capped with clay and a deep trench dug to prevent tree roots from growing into the pit.
The first layer of horns was buried vertically. In the second layer the horns are horizontal. More pictures can be viewed on the farm diary blog for that day.
Also buried Yarrow preparation and lifted last year’s chamomile.
