• The pickup system consists of individual sensors for each string, mounted in a specially designed bridge. Each sensor is housed inside a pendulum upon which the string rests at the bridge. String vibration causes the pendulum to vibrate ever so slightly within the bridge, which creates an extremely large signal, so large in fact that it needs no preamp to boost output level. You can plug directly into a guitar amplifier and get powerful, aggressive and massive electric tone straight away.
• It's fitted with a small onboard mixer, which supplies level controls for the individual sensors and a master level control. The purpose of the mixer is to tailor sound output of the strings to fit individual playing styles, sound requirements, etc. An Output Mode switch provides the player with the option of using the mixer or bypassing it altogether, in which case battery power is not necessary since the massive sound output created by the pickups needs no preamp boost to make it usable.
• The violin's hue changing "Cosmic Blue" body is a one-piece design crafted from a block of solid maple. Just as on an electric guitar this design offers a stable yet resonant body upon which massive tone can be created. The soundboard is a single piece of maple extending from the neck down to the chin rest. With the bridge resting on the soundboard it simulates the top of an acoustic violin causing the soundboard and body to resonate to add just the right amount of warmth to the tone.
• Headphone jack: The Silent Practice technology that Yamaha founded can also be used as an on-stage, in-ear monitor. Electric guitar technology: The system is grounded (by grounding custom designed strings to a custom tailpiece) to eliminate interference. Gear-type tuning heads: Machined heads provide quick and precise tuning. Custom 'C' string: The fifth string, 'C,' is made to violin length, matching tonal balance and tension.
• Everything comes together to give the EV-205 a wide dynamic range. Tone is fat, edgy, aggressive and powerful but you can go from pianissimo to fortissimo with clarity and ease. Response is quick and the sound is clear. Output is noise-free you need not worry about feedback. The body is comfortable and light with the heel and upper rib where they should be. The design allows attachment of most conventional shoulder and chin rests so you can use whatever you're accustomed to.
