| SOIL - ACIDIDY | Acidity and alkalinity in soil: General: Soils in moist climates tend to be acid and those in dry climates are alkaline. A soil with a pH lower than 7.0 is an acid soil and one with a pH higher is alkaline. pH is of great importance as it affects the health of micro-organisms and plant roots, and controls the amounts of available nutrients in the soil solution. It is also important in water quality and other environmental issues. |
